This Year Softball Tournament

This year because Ben is Student Body Pres. he planned a softball tournament. It was an all day thing and the kids did not miss a moment. This is B. at the end of the day...covered in mud, dirt sweat and could not go on any longer. Sheldon (top left back ground) and Ben both had game that day, oh the other skills you learn in med school:)

Best Buddies

This is Bronsen and Ian. The two of them have had a love hate realationship over the last 3 years of their young lives and currently they are in a love phase. We have been here a month and these two are like glue. They run, jump, play and share dialogs that are worthy of comedy TV. For example, the two of them were sword fighting and B stabbed Ian and said, "I got you" and Ian responded in a mocking tone with, "I'm still standing!" Then the two of them continued the competition. Then after prayers one night B said to Ian, "I love you Ian," and Ian said, "I love you too." And then they hugged. It was precious! They are just the best of friends and we are really enjoying their friendship.

The lesson I learned about BOY TOYS!!!

Imagine searching for the bathroom with eyes half open at 3:00 in the morning when, "OUCH, son of a gun!" Embedded in your foot...a Lego Storm Trooper. As you remove the square piece of tiny plastic from under your skin you attempt to rest your hand on the sink when it slips off the sink because Optimus Prime is guarding the sink at night to make sure no cavities crawl back up the drain. You decide that going to the bathroom is over rated, you give up and proceed back to bed where you crawl under the covers and lay right on top of a 5 inch long metal 747 Jet Blue airplane. You push the plane off the bed and finally drift off back to sleep. The next thing you know it is morning and you are getting poked in the head with a green light saber and being told that you are Joba the Hut. You then spend the next 9 hours racing cars, derailing trains, transforming robots, saving a galaxy far far away, picking up all 600 Legos, knocking down block towers, fixing 18 snacks and issuing 78 reminders to keep your hands to themselves. Just as you begin to think that you can't do it anymore, a dimpled dirty face turns to you, sticky hands are placed in your un-brushed hair and bright eyes look deep into your tired ones and you hear him say, "Mommy you're beautiful! I love you!" What Storm Trooper? Whose transformer? How many pieces? Where did my frustration go? Why? That is the only question that matters now is Why? Why do we, as mothers, do what we do everyday? We do it because we love our boys. We love them for their energy. We love them for their fearlessness. We love them because they remind us of their daddy. We love them because we see the grown up boys they are becoming and the loyal men we hope they will be. We love them because it is impossible to stop. Thank heaven for little boys, and their toys!

Bronsen's 3rd Birthday

I guess that you can call it tradition because the last 2 years we have celebrated B.'s birthday early in Utah so he can have a real party with family and presents and cake and stuff. So this year was really nice to celebrate with everyone. I love birthday parties, especially at my mom's house. It just makes me think of the huge parties I used to have as a kid. All my aunts and uncles would come and my dad would film is with the camcorder and we got to do the one thing that was more special than any family tradition ever...
take a bite of your birthday cake! (aka: The Cake Shove) I have know idea where this tradition started, (maybe with a giant flag cake, Dad?) or how many generations it will continue on with, but I just think it is just great. What better way to mark your piece than to smash your face into the side of it? Even the adults still take a bite of their birthday cake. Oh the fun of the Jacobs' home!

And finally I have to include the picture of the cake that I made, well my mom made the frosting. She is the best at chocolate;) But I decorated it with the items that he picked out. I thought that it was very creative since I did nothing to plan ahead for it. I even sent my brother and his wife out during the party to get candles! I so work better under pressure! Happy birthday B!
